Artist Boyishmind aka: Justin Schwartz, is a talented monster creator. Based out of England, he’s been creating beautiful grotesque monsters. His use of bright and vibrant colours makes them pop and catches the eye; it also makes them just as beautiful as they are grotesque.

1. Where are you from?

I am from Durban, South Africa but I’ve been living in England for the last 2 years now.

2. How did you get so good at drawing penises?

I think it may be hereditary but it’s yet to be proven.

3. How long does it take to complete a piece?

Depends on my mood, if I’m enjoying the piece from the start then usually a good 2 hours or so, if not I could drag the process out until I want to end it.

4. How do you come up with your creatures?

They just come to me really, I usually scribble stuff and see what wants to be made, I sometimes have an idea and sometimes I just let it take its own form.

5. What musical artists are you currently listening to?

I’ve been stuck on the same artists since I was like 16. ATMOSPHERE and AESOP ROCK will always be my go to music any time though and have been a huge inspiration when it come to my art.

6. What's England like compared to South Africa, and what brought you to England?

England is alright, it’s safe and things work better here than in South Africa which is always a bonus. The safety thing is really a huge concern as I’d like to have a family one day with my wife, and I'd like to let my mind rest a bit instead of worrying all the time about their safety, so that’s a big reason for leaving.

7. Did you ever do Graffiti? Your work has a very street art vibe to it.

Graffiti is what got me into drawing properly and gave me an understanding of perspective and shadows. I wasn’t the best at graffiti but I tried my best, but it’s a thing that’s unfortunately dominated by too many inflated egos and everyone wants to be the king, so eventually I got tired of people acting like it was theirs to own and just did my own thing and drew more.

8. What is your favourite colour?

I don’t have one really, I think all colours work well because there are so many, if I only preferred one colour I’d get bored of it and begin to dislike it, but I do prefer pinks, greens and lighter colours as it shows in most of my drawings, but I don’t have a favourite.

9. What was the last thing you made?

Art wise? I just finished drawing a banana brain picture inspired by a Die Antwoord song (I’ve also been a huge fan of them from back in the Max Normal days)

10. What's your favourite cookie? Oreo or Fudgee-o or something else?

I’m more of a gummy guy really :) but I’d take Oreo if I had no other sweets.
