Graphic design is becoming a more and more popular art form.  Ottawa Graphic Designer Jamie Dean is doing his part to help it become even more popular. Still refining his craft the work he has put out is simple and amazing. It gets the message out loud and clear. Take a look at the interview below and check out his work.

1. Where are you from?

Ottawa, Canada!

2. How did you get into Graphic Design?

I took graphic design in high school, and after that I took two years of Interactive Multimedia and Design (IMD) at Carleton, and it wasn't my thing. However, I had one graphic design class in that program, and I loved it! My professor encouraged me to consider transferring to Algonquin and taking the design program, and a year later that’s exactly what I did.

3. What was the first thing you ever designed?

That's a tough one. I can't remember the exact first thing, but one of the first pieces that really stood out for me was a personal logo we had to design in the design class for IMD. I got a great mark on that assignment, and afterwards I realized that I wanted to keep doing graphic design.

4. Why are Beagles such awesome dogs?

Oh man! I could probably write an article on just this question alone. They're pretty much the perfect dog. Not too big, not too small. They're adorable, friendly, and they've got great personality. I've never met a beagle I didn't like.

5. Do you do any custom jobs?

For sure!

6. Where might we have seen your work?

All over Ottawa! One of my first design jobs was working at a sign making shop. I made signs for all sorts of businesses, and they're all over. I've also spent time working on a few local publications, the Kitchissippi Times for example.

7. Who is a client you would love to design for?

Under Armour. They're the best of the best. They have an MVP in every league, and they've got a great brand already. I'd love to contribute to it one day.

8. What is your process when making a design? How long does it take?

Research, sketch, design, revise, and deliver. Obviously that's simplified, but you get the idea.

As for how long it takes: It really depends on the scope of the project.

9. Who are your favourite designers?

Jon Contino, Musketon, Aaron Draplin, Meg Robichaud, and Ruffmercy.

10. Oreo or Fudgee-O cookies?

Oreo, although Maple Leaf Creme cookies would be my favourite stuffed cookie.

Pfft everyone knows that Peek Freans Fruit Cream cookie is the best stuffed cookie. You’ll find links to Jamie’s Twitter and Instagram accounts below and a small gallery. Hurry up and contact him to get a logo or to update your old stale one.
